This isn't Facebook

I mean. I AM on Facebook, sometimes.

I could do this on different other platforms though couldn't I?

The problem is that I think every single social media platform has changed for the worse.

Facebook? Brilliant idea, fantastic story. It was the real pioneer of social network, and the Daddy of them all (MySpace was the Granddaddy). It was a place you could find out what your friends and family were up to and post your business and your friends and family would find it. Those years have gone. Your post is lost in the sponsored content and endless, mindless short-form scrolling. You'd be lucky for any of your friends to find any of your posts now - 'the algorithm' will not deem them 'important' or 'worthy' enough.

Facebook has morphed from what was a perfect ideal, into a platform to be outraged and outrageous on. What was a perfect social media platform has become an stinking cauldron of get-rich-quick schemes, influencers and scammers tapping into the mindless masses' greed and yearning for money and a lifestyle they don't want to work for.

I'm not knocking it. That's business. I wish I'd thought of it.

Instagram? More endless scrolling of exactly the same content that you're seeing on Facebook, because it's one and the same. Facebook and Instagram are both owned by Meta Platforms.  More adverts, more outrage and more posturing, only this time it's photo-sharing. Garbage.

LinkedIn? Facebook, but for business. It's a networking and job hunting platform and a great idea, if only it wasn't slowly descending into the same kind of business. It's still tolerable and I'm still getting relevant articles there, and I post occasionally about what I'm doing if I think I have something to say. It's still a place where businesses can soft-sell with interesting technology articles but I have noticed lately an increase in geo-political and religious propaganda - irrelevant to the community, but people are still people. LinkedIn is now the place to oversell yourself and God-help-me if I see another article directly pasted from ChatGPT with the term '...and here's the kicker...' I'm going to do... absolutely nothing, except probably tut quietly to myself.

The you have your Snapchat and X (Twitter), which have become the de-facto way for the truly powerful to access the masses. And again, 'the algorithm' means content is lost amongst the crowd and the paid content.

So here I am. I want a platform that presents me as I am. A workaholic nerdy geek with a passion for learning, programming, creativity, databases, motorcycles, films, astronomy, physics and anything interesting.

If it's true that doing what you love for a living means you never truly work a day in your life, why am I always working??
